El árbol / The tree

Como ya comentamos hace unos días una de nuestras nuevas sesiones de Storytelling está basada en el cuento "The Giving Tree" ("El árbol generoso") de Shel Silverstein. Un cuento con dos protagonistas: un árbol y un niño.

As I already told you a few days ago one of our new Storytelling Sessions is based on the book "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. A tale with two characters: a tree and a boy.

Un árbol grande, hermoso, entrañable... y generoso.

Elena tuvo claro desde el principio que debía confeccionar un árbol que estuviera a la altura del personaje. No quería un árbol liso y sin personalidad. Buscamos telas en tiendas de barrio, almacenes de bricolaje, talleres de tapicería y tiendas de decoración hasta que dimos con lo que ella había imaginado. 

Elena knew from the beginning that she had to make a tree that would measure up to its´ character in the book. She didn´t want to make a simple tree. We searched fabrics everywhere until we found what she had pictured.

Cortó la tela del tronco de tal forma que remarcara su relieve. La llevó días coser una a una las ciento y pico hojas que forma la copa de este majestuoso árbol. Como toque final hizo unas deliciosas manzanas rojas.

She cut the fabric for the trunk in a way that it would enhance its relief. It took her a few days to sew more than one hundred leaves that form the top of this majestic tree. As a final touch she also made a few delicious red apples.

Her self-demandingness when making the material that I used when telling stories helps me face the audience focusing solely on my narrative skills knowing that I can totally rely on it... and that for me is priceless.

Nuestras versiones de "Very Hungry Caterpillar", "The Gruffalo" y "Mouse Tales" se han convertido en clásicos de nuestro repertorio gracias en una grandísima parte a su labor artística.... estoy seguro que lo mismo ocurrirá con  nuestro "The Giving Tree".

Our versions of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "The Gruffalo" and "Mouse Tales" have become classics of our repertoire thanks in a great way to her artistic work... I am sure that the same will also happen with our version of "The Giving Tree".

Comienza un nuevo curso escolar y "Tales From The Box" Storytelling vuelve con las pilas cargadas y con muchas ganas de presentaros nuestra novedades.

The new school year begins and "Tales From The Box" Storytelling is back with batteries recharged and eager to present our novelties to you.

La Primavera pasada empezó la búsqueda de dos nuevas historias para adaptar. Antes de Verano, con la selección ya hecha, empezamos a trabajar en el texto de los cuentos y el material que nos acompañará en la narración. Durante el Verano, entre escapada y escapada, hemos trabajado para llegar a obtener el resultado buscado.

Last Spring we began the search for two new stories to adapt to our way of telling. Before Summer, with the stories already chosen, we began to work on the stories texts and the material that usually helps us to tell the stories. During the Summer, in between trips, we have worked to achieve the desired result.

"The Lamb Who Came For Dinner" ("La ovejita que vino a cenar") de Steve Smallman.

La razón principal de elegir este cuento es que en nuestra casa siempre nos ha gustado mucho. Elena y la peque de la casa lo han leído cientos de veces en la biblioteca y en casa. Elena apostó por esta historia desde el principio. Es muy tierna y hace que veamos al lobo de una manera diferente a lo que nos tienen acostumbrados los cuentos tradicionales.

The main reason to choose this story is that our family loves it. Elena and our little daughter have read it hundreds of times at the public library and at home. Elena went for this tale since the beginning. It is a tender tale in which the wolf is nothing like we are use to in the traditional tales.

Ya dediqué una entrada de este Blog a este cuento la Primavera pasada. Como ya escribí entonces no es un cuento fácil, no es complaciente... pero es muy bonito. La generosidad desmedida frente al egoísmo ciego.

I already wrotte an entry dedicated to this story in this blog last Spring. As I wrote then it is not and easy tale, it is not pleasant... but it is precious. Generosity confronted to pure selfishness.

Estoy impaciente por enseñaros el material que me va a acompañar en la narración de estas Sesiones de Storytelling... ¡es maravilloso! Pero para eso tendréis que esperar unos días.

I am really looking forward to show you the material that will help me tell these stories.... It is wonderful! But you all will have to wait a few days for that.
